LOCAL 158 (PEORIA, ILLINOIS) members love veterans, and that shows in their fundraising. The local raises money for veterans through their Red Friday shirts, spearheaded by L-158 sister Keri Elliott. The money goes to sponsor Honor Flights, an organization that takes veterans to Washington D.C. to visit war memorials. At the May union meeting, members donated $2,100 for veterans’ trips to Gene Neeley, a 94-year-old World War II veteran affiliated with Honor Flights.

Honor Flights pays tribute to veterans for their sacrifice and achievements by touring various sites in Washington, including the WWII Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial, Iwo Jima Memorial, Navy Memorial and Air Force Memorial. The trip includes the cost of transportation, meals and wheelchairs, when needed. Vets Honor Flights take about 75 veterans on each trip, along with chaperones to help.
