Brotherhood backs Trumka’s call to action to make health care reform a reality

All unionists asked to mobilize immediately; write or call Congress beginning Nov. 5

Action kit available online

WITH THE FUTURE of health care in America riding on congressional action in the next few weeks, International President Newton B. Jones is requesting that all Boilermaker members support AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka’s call to action. A strong union response can help push through legislation that makes sense.

Citing the assault against health care reform by the insurance industry and right-wing media, Jones stated, “We can make a difference if we step up fast and step up big. It will take an extraordinary effort to stop the attempt to tax hard-won benefits, to make every employer pay their fair share, and to win the public health insurance option that can keep insurance companies honest and make reform work.”

All local lodges are being notified of an action kit that includes professional, customized worksite flyers and other materials.

“We are so close to victory,” said Jones, “and our union will be part of this victory. We must do all that we can to influence this legislation now. Health Care Can’t Wait!”
