NALC food drive is set for May 9

Postal workers will handle pick-ups

THE LARGEST ONE-DAY food drive in the nation will be held Saturday, May 9, when members of the National Association of Letter Carriers pick up items along their regular routes.

Last year the NALC picked up 73.1 million pounds of food and delivered it to local community food banks, pantries, and shelters. The food drive works in partnership with the AFL-CIO Community Services Network, America’s Second Harvest, and the United Way.

With an estimated 30 million people facing hunger each day ― including more than 12 million children ― and with millions losing their jobs during the economic recession, this year’s drive is more important than ever.

To support the drive, simply place a box or can of non-perishable food next to your mailbox before your mail carrier arrives on Saturday, May 9. The carrier will do the rest!
