Press Release from the Building and Construction Trades Department regarding the on-going cost and scheduling problems being experienced on US Department of Veterans Affairs hospital construction projects.

BCTD President Sean McGarvey issued a statement today in reaction to the July Jobs Report issued by the US Department of Labor

Sean McGarvey, President of the Building and Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO, (BCTD) issued this statement on the announcement by President Obama that 7 nationally and regionally significant infrastructure projects will be expedited to help modernize and expand 5 major ports in the United States

Today's Building Trades Unions are full of men and women who are dedicated to proving the Value on Display Everyday mantra of the Building & Construction Trades Department.  Among them are armed services veterans who've come into the trades through the Helmets to Hardhats program.  Allow us to introduce you to one of them, Matt Todd.

The Associated Builders and Contractors claim to serve as the voice of the American construction union. But their primary is ideological and political - to drive down wages, cut benefits and eliminate unions. 

The Building and Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO, announced today its enthusiastic endorsement of the 2012 re-election bid of President Barack Obama.  The announcement comes on the heels of a unanimous vote of the Department’s Governing Board of Presidents.

“The decision reached by the Governing Board of Presidents reflects the firm belief of all of our unions that a Barack Obama presidency offers the continued, steady hand of a leader who navigated our nation through some very uncertain times when not just our nation, but the entire globe, was on the verge of economic collapse,” said Sean McGarvey, President of the Building and Construction Trades Department..

Ladies and gentlemen... brothers and sisters... and distinguished guests...it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 2012 National Legislative Conference of the Building and Construction Trades Department.

And it is my distinct and humble honor to address you this morning as the President of this great organization.  I am so very grateful to this Governing Board of Presidents for placing their faith and trust in me.  And you can rest assured that it will be my intention to NEVER, EVER let you down.

Secretary/Treasurer of America's Building Trades Unions provides examples of why Project Labor Agreements in the construction industry continue to gain traction across the country and provide further evidence that the utilization of the skilled trades are an advantage for customers and a pathway to careers in construction.

Project Labor Agreements or PLAs are widely used in the Bay Area of California when city officials, using taxpayer approved bond money for construction, need to provide the most bang for the public's buck. In fact, from School Construction, to Public Transportation to Professional Sports, Project Labor Agreements link these industries together... and the arguments against them (PLAs) are simply proven not true in any instance whatsoever.

Mark H. Ayers, President of the Building and Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO today issued the following statement regarding the decision by the U.S. District Court Judge Victoria Roberts to strike down a Mighigan Law that would have effectively prohibited the use of project labor agreements (PLAs) by state and local government entities...

The site of Super Bowl 46, Lucas Oil Stadium is where the Colts play and this story highlights why "Luck" wasn't involved at all when it came to the construction of the stadium under a project labor agreement.

Through a myriad of actions and programs, America's Building Trades Unions have maintained a rich history of honoring and assisting our nation's military veterans.  In fact, a significant percentage of the collective membership base of all building and construction trades unions is comprised of men and women who possess active duty and National Guard military experience.

Dues are something which many of our competitors present arguments against when attempting to discourage union membership. In fact, they're very minor but very, very important.

Powered by America's Building Trades Unions, this informational video highlights the true value of PLAs or Project Labor Agreements, by showing viewers that private and pubic interest is on the rise, from coast-to-coast.

The singular goal of this bill is to delay and ultimately prevent union representation elections. Its aim is to deny workers the opportunity for a voice at work.
