New contract summaries

A brief listing of recent agreements signed and ratified by Boilermaker local lodges

National Cement Lodge

Effective Aug. 29, 2008 to Aug. 28, 2011, for eight members of the National Cement Lodge who make perlite (a form of natural glass) at Chemrock Corp. in Bala Cynwyd, Pa.

L-104 — Seattle

Effective March 31, 2008 to March 31, 2011, for 10 members of Local 104 (Seattle), who make forestry equipment and parts at Acrowood Corporation.

Acrowood manufactures equipment to hog and chip logs and wastewood, and precisely screen and clean chips, flakes, fiber, and sawdust for pulping, particleboard, OSB, MDF, LVL, and urban wood processes.

L-159 — Mountain Top, Pa.

Effective Nov. 4, 2008 to Nov. 3, 2011, for four members of Local 159 (Mountain Top, Pa.), who work in production and maintenance at the Keystone Forging Co., a closed-die forging manufacturer. Materials forged include carbon and alloy steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and copper-based alloys.

L-D271 — Martinsburg, W.Va.

Effective Oct. 1, 2008 to Nov. 1, 2009, for 30 members of Local Lodge D271 (Martinsburg, W.Va.), who manufacture clay brick at Continental Brick, the last remaining brick manufacturing plant in West Virginia.

Continental Brick serves the Washington, D.C.; New York City; and Pittsburgh markets. It has a number of quarry sites located adjacent to its historic brick plant and yard. Although not used anymore, the plant has preserved old beehive brick kilns as part of the brickyard.

L-D324 — Havelock, New Brunswick

Effective Aug. 17, 2008 to Aug. 17, 2011, for 31 members of Local D324, Havelock, New Brunswick, who work at Graymont Inc., producing quicklime, hydrated lime, precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC), limestone, construction stone, ready-mix concrete, Redi-Rock™, retaining walls, and asphalt.

L-D342 — Plattsburgh, N.Y.

Effective July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2012, for six members of Local D342, Plattsburgh, N.Y., who make asphalt and stone products at the Lewis Quarry Division of Graymont Materials.

L-483 — Alton, Ill.

Effective July 1, 2008 to Dec. 3, 2013, for 85 members of Local 483, Alton, Ill., who make brass ammunition at Global Brass and Copper.

L-486 — Litchfield, Ill.

Effective July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2011, for 54 members of Local 486, Litchfield, Ill., who make steel grating at Fisher & Ludlow Inc.

Products are sold under the brand names of Tru-weld and Fisholows, and can be found in mining and smelting operations, power generating stations, oil fields and refineries, chemical plants, water treatment facilities, pulp and paper producers, transportation equipment, commercial buildings, security institutions, and shopping malls.

L-614 — New London, Conn.

Effective Nov. 8, 2008 to April 11, 2014, for 2,400 union members who work at the Electric Boat shipyard in Groton, Conn. The 65-month contract was negotiated by the Metal Trades Council for members of Metal Trades unions, including 400 members of Boilermakers Local 614 (New London, Conn.).

Electric Boat, a subsidiary of General Dynamics, designs and builds nuclear submarines for the U.S. Navy and employs more than 10,000 people in Connecticut and Rhode Island.
