The Quality Control Council of Canada (QCC) is the recognized bargaining agent for employees of contractors engaged in the Nondestructive Testing and Allied Work industries. We negotiate a collective agreement with an employers' association and this agreement is national in scope. Signatory independent contractors also agree to become bound by this agreement.
The Council has six table officers from the initial parent organizations and a representative from each of the local unions holding jurisdiction. In addition, there are two life members.
The two parent organizations are the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers and Helpers and the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry in the United States and Canada.
Both of these labour organizations have been serving working people in various industries and institutions since the late 19th century.
The contractors who employ our members in the inspection industry are, for the most part, members of the Nondestructive Management Association (NDTMA). The Association is governed by a constitution which provides for, among other things, the election of officers.
A regular liaison between the QCC and the NDTMA is maintained between agreement negotiations. The top officers of both groups confer on problems and matters of mutual interest as often as necessary.
At least once annually, the NDTMA officers meet with a full session of the QCC. Due to the critical nature of our work (i.e. on-time and on-budget schedules) this liaison is a proven asset to labour-management relations.
