L-158 members turn out for Labor Day

LOCAL 158 (Peoria, Ill.) members and their families celebrated Labor Day September 5 by marching in the annual parade. L-158 President Dave Gullette said his lodge is working hard to build up union spirit, and he is pleased with the nice turn-out for the event.

The local was chartered in 1940 as a manufacturing lodge. L-158 members are employed by Komatsu and build super-sized (up to 360-ton payload) off-road dump trucks used in mining operations around the world.

A brief listing of recent agreements signed and ratified by Boilermaker local lodges

L-13 — Philadelphia

Effective April 23, 2008 to March 31, 2011, for four members of Local 13, Philadelphia, who perform shop and field work in the oil and gas division of Integra Services Technologies Inc.

L-M18 — Buffalo, N.Y.

Effective June 1, 2008 to May 31, 2011, for 24 members of Local M18, Buffalo, N.Y., who make metal plating at the Keystone Corp.

International announces 2008 scholarship winners

Forty-one Boilermaker dependents earn awards totaling $50,000

THE BOILERMAKERS’ INTERNATIONAL Executive Council scholarship committee announced the winners of its 2008 scholarship program April 25. A total of $50,000 was awarded to 41 scholarship recipients: $38,000 to United States students and $12,000 to Canadian students.

Local 158 supports Easter Seals Telethon

Komatsu Mining Systems matches union donations

MEMBERS OF LOCAL 158, Peoria, Ill., raised $2,000 for Easter Seals this year. L-158 President S. Mike Damm answered phones during the annual March 31-April 1 telethon, accepting donations for the help and hope of children with disabilities. He raised funds from Local 158 members who work at Komatsu Mining Systems and from two sister companies: Teleweld, out of Streater, Ill., and John Best & Sons, out of Galva, Ill. Komatsu then matched the donations.

Local 158 participates in telethon

Members raise $3,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

On August 5, 2006, local 158 Sec.-Treas. Kevin Reatherford didn’t mind answering the phone. In fact, the more calls he got, the happier he was — and the more money he raised for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. Tenn.
